If you simply can't decide which new sport to take up, why not opt for a discipline that combines three? Triathlon combines swimming, cycling and running so it provides the health benefits of three sports rolled into one. "Swimming is good for cardiovascular development, helping your heart and your lungs; cycling improves muscle strength and running increases your bone density," says Triathlon Scotland national performance development coach Chris Volley. "Completing a triathlon also has mental health benefits - focusing on a challenge and then achieving it. There is a vibrant club scene across the UK, which is a good way to meet new friends and take part at your own pace. Clubs can also provide you with access to quality coaching and advice.
